Elliot O’Donnell/Askew One is a New Zealand–born, U.S.–based interdisciplinary artist working across painting, murals, and site-responsive projects in the public realm. With over two decades of experience in the graffiti and mural scenes, his work bridges studio practice, large-scale public art, and contemporary visual culture.

Beyond his own artwork, O’Donnell supports projects as an agent, consultant, educator, and advocate, connecting brands, institutions, and communities with artists and visual strategies grounded in lived experience rather than surface aesthetics.

  • Washington Center / 7 Pillars Project

    22,000 sq ft mural project painted in Downtown Portland, Oregon, 2025 with support from Portland Street Art Alliance, Menashe Properties, City of Portland, Hand of Dogg Murals & many local artists.

  • Spatiotemporal Seattle

    Spatiotemporal Project. Timed with Seattle Art Week, was an immersive project organized with ARTXIV and FFTTNW, supported by Montana Cans USA. Blending exhibition spaces with large-scale murals, a graffiti wall, and interactive workshops, Spatiotemporal created an experience where art, city, and audience converged.

  • RWC Building Supplies Phoenix, AR

    1400 sq ft mural for family owned building and roofing supply company located in twelve locations throughout California, Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico - independently owned since 1958.

  • Spark 5G Street Museum

  • The Last OG / Marcy Playground Courts

    The Marcy Playground basketball courts in Brooklyn, renovated in April 2018 through a partnership between TBS, The Last O.G. star Tracy Morgan, and NYC Parks. Designed to honour Morgan's roots in the adjacent Marcy Houses and provide a revamped, safe, and inspiring space for the community.

  • #space+time Through the Art of Askew One

    The first solo exhibition at the gallery for Askew One. The exhibition documented his journey from graffiti to muralism to contemporary art, with his current work largely a mash-up of text and portraits all concerned with urban life and popular culture. The show ran December 2018 - March 2019.

  • Rita Angus Tribute Mural

    Large-scale public artwork created by artist Elliot O'Donnell / Askew One in early 2019. Located on the side of the former Dominion Building on Bond Street (near Willis St) in Wellington, the mural honours one of the country's most significant 20th-century painters. After years of pushing to make it happen the project was finally initiated in January 2019, organised by artist, activist and street art advocate Bruce Mahalski.

  • InForm: New Zealand Graffiti Artists DIscuss Their Work

    2007 book by prominent New Zealand graffiti artist Elliot "Askew" O'Donnell that documents the country's graffiti scene, featuring profiles, interviews, and step-by-step process shots of 15 influential artists. The book explores the development of graffiti in New Zealand, showcasing the artists' techniques, influences, and unique perspectives from a small, isolated country. Considered the first significant book on Aotearoa's graffiti culture, it was shortlisted for the Montana New Zealand Book Awards in 2008.

  • The Most Dedicated: An Aotearoa Graffiti Story The Dowse Museum

    An immersive experience telling the story of TMD (The Most Dedicated) Crew, Aotearoa’s most renowned international street art collective. Featured the work of over 20 of its members, visitors were able to delve into the origins and evolution of this graffiti super group. The show ran March - September 2021 as part of The Dowse Art Museum’s 50th Anniversary programme.

  • Disrupt The System

    Auckland’s first international graffiti jam that ran from 2000 - 2005 and became part of the Aotearoa Hip Hop Summit. Artists from across the eras of New Zealand graffiti were invited to paint alongside international guests from Europe, USA and Australia in Aotea Square.

What type of projects are you willing to take on?

I’m open to discussing most projects. If you would like to commission a mural or studio work, need design or illustration, need a consultant to ensure authenticity on a project that requires graffiti or mural art, feel free to contact me. I’m also an agent, so some projects may not suit me specifically, but likeliness is I can connect you with the right artist.

Are you still willing to travel for projects?

I have young children so travel isn’t as easy as it used to be. That said, I’m open to consider any invitations , sometimes things line up and I can make it happen!

Is there a ballpark price for large outdoor projects?

short answer is no. Every project has it’s own very specific considerations - size, complexity of design, access and permitting. The more information you can give me the easier I can cost it out.
